Remembrance of the sacrifices of Imam Hossein (A.S) in Europe

On Sunday, like Muslims in eastern countries, the Islamic centres in Europe were also witness of commemoration of 10th day of lunar month of Moharram, the day of Ashura.

Various gatherings of the Muslims and followers of path of Imam Hossein (A.S) were held in different European countries including UK, Germany, France, Belgium, Holland, Denmark, Sweden, Norway, Poland and Baltic states specially Estonia in connection with the day of his martyrdom.

By speeches and reciting poetry, the participants of the programs paid great tribute to Imam Hossein, the grandson of the Prophet Mohammed and other martyrs of Karbala.

Tasu’a, the 9th day of the Moharram was also held as marked at the eve of the anniversary of martyrdom of Imam Hossein’s (A.S), his brother, Abbas ibn Ali and other martyrs of Karbala.

Both ninth and tenth days of Moharram are the climax of a ten-day mourning ritual, which is performed in commemoration of martyrdom of the third Muslim’s Imam and his companions in the battle of Karbala.
The mourning of programs were started by the day first of Moharram and a number of the people from Muslim communities including Shias attended the programs.

Speakers of the daily events in last ten days emphasized on the message of Imam Hossein as saying the message was for whole humanity. This was the message of justice, love, patience, help and respect of the human being but determination against tyranny.

They hope that by reaching out in this way, we can show a better image of Islam to the world. This is a special message to oppressed people of world that they should not surrender to the oppression of any power, no matter how big it is.

Imam Hossein’s martyrdom in the year 61 AH of the Islamic calendar (October 10, 680 AD) in Karbala is regarded as the symbol of struggle against oppressors as the grandson of Islam’s Prophet Mohammad with a small group of his companions and his relatives stood up against oppression and injustice.
