KC-EU held martyrdom day of Maqbool Butt and Afzal Guru in Brussels

Kashmir Council Europe (KC-EU) held martyrdom anniversary of two great Kashmiri martyrs Maqbool Butt and Afzal Guru in Brussels on Saturday.

Speakers of the anniversary program paid rich tribute to both of the sons of soil of Kashmir. They speakers asked the international community to pressurize India in order to hand over mortal remains of both of the martyrs to their relatives for a proper burial in Kashmir. Chairman Kashmir Council EU Ali Raza Syed, Present JKLF Europe Tanveer Chaudhary, Former Ambassador of EU Mr Anthony Crasner, Chairman Kashmir Info Mir Shahjahan, Member Brussels Parliament Dr Zahoor Manzoor, Kashmiri leader Sardar Mahmood and President World Kashmir Diaspora Alliance Europe Ch Khalid M.Joshi addressed the gathering. An NGO’s representative Mari Pole and many others were also present on the occasion.

It is important to mention that Kashmiris on both sides of the Line of Control and across the world observe the martyrdom anniversary of prominent Kashmiri liberation leader, Muhammad Maqbool Butt every year on Feb 11. Butt was hanged in Tihar Jail of New Delhi on the 11th February in 1984 for his leading role in the Kashmir’s liberation struggle. He was buried in the premises of the prison.

Muhammad Afzal Guru was second Kashmiri who was hanged and buried at the same Tehar prison by the Indian Authorities on Feb 9, 2013.  Hanging of the Kashmiri youth Afzal Guru had been also evoked widespread condemnation by the international human rights organisations.

During gathering of the anniversary of both martyrs, Chairman Kashmir Council EU Mr Ali Raza Syed said, these two great martyrs are lights for struggle of the people of Kashmir for their right of self-determination.




He said, Indian acted inhumanely by holding bodies of the martyrs at jail. No human being and no one of the civilised societies in the world accepts such ruthless behaviour as India is doing with the Kashmiris.

Ali Raza Syed also warned that by killing people and committing crimes against the humanity in the occupied Kashmir, the India cannot stop the peaceful movement of the Kashmir. The people of Kashmir are struggling for the rights of self-determination accepted under UN Security Council’s resolutions and as per a promise committed by the Indian Authorities.

He also denounced Indian atrocities against the people of Kashmir including extra judicial killings and the house arrest and detention of a number of leaders in the held valley. Chairman KC-EU demanded the world community to play its role in order to stop atrocities against the innocent and peaceful people of Kashmir.
